Reggae (wym. rege) – styl we wspó³czesnej muzyce rozrywkowej wywodz¹cy siê z Jamajki. Niezwyk³y rozwój prze¿y³ pod koniec lat 50. wraz z pojawieniem siê ska, a tak¿e od momentu uzyskania przez Jamajkê niepodleg³oœci w 1962. Stanowi najbardziej charakterystyczny gatunek muzyki jamajskiej. Jej historia siêga ponad 400 lat wstecz do wczesnych czasów afrykañskiego niewolnictwa. Na muzykê reggae wp³yw mia³a tradycja nyabinghi oraz gatunki muzyczne takie jak: calypso, blues, mento, liczne rytmy afrykañskie, indyjskie ragi, soca, ju-ju, salsa, muzyka Indian Po³udniowej Ameryki, ska, rumba, cumina-burru, samba i inne [1].
